If you formed your own cult, what would it be like?

You know, I've thought about that a bit recently (I'm looking for rodent teeth in sand; my mind either wanders or goes into open revolt!). If I were going to start a cult, it would be remarkably similar to the Geology Department at your local university, only with a MUCH better building.
The rock record would be our holy book. And it's indesputable! Interpretations, sure, those are always open to dispute; but everything the record says is absolutely, 100% true. It's the foundational assumption of geology as the field stands today. The planet is also omnipotent, in one of the ways the word is interpreted--within its sphere of influence (okay, oblate spheroid
) it can do ANYTHING. Trust me, if it wants to mess with you it will. The study of geology would be, in a very real sense, studying the scripture of the goddess the cult is built around. Communing with our goddess wouldn't be a mystical or theoretical thing. She's right there; we can touch her, study her, pick up pieces of her!
If it were my cult, meaning that I made all the choices as opposed to a committee (a more likely outcome), the churches (which would have blackboards and overhead projectors, because the celebration would be a geology lecture and we love to draw) would be built in the Gothic style. No other archetectural style, in my opinion, so perfectly captures both the harshness and the sublime beauty of the Earth. The fact that the style is slightly creepy (think Phantom of the Opera) is even symbolic: nature, once you brush off the Disney facad, is really, really disturbing.
Oh, and after the celebration we would repair to the basement, and engage in the two central sacraments of my cult: drinking alcohol and random discussions among people as interested in rocks as you are.
I don't think I'd institute a dress code. There's pretty much a natural one that I like in this field. It's kinda like wizards: the more you advance in geology, the more comfortable and rugged your cloths get. At GSA you can pick out the most highly respected members because they're typically in blue jeans, hiking boots, a flannal shirt, and a hat of some sort. The newer people, still eager to impress people, dress better, and the newer they are the better they dress. I like that system. I'd probably have to put some sort of rules in place, though.
Celebacy WOULD NOT be a requirement. In fact, I'd frown upon it (but wouldn't go so far as to forbid it). I study evolution. I have a hoard of highly intelligent people diligently studying one of the most practical of sciences. And lots and lots and lots of alcohol. I'm not going to take over the world via force of violence or anything; I'm just going to try to out-breed everyone else.
And yeah, I would consider the world female. I still do. My wife has never liked it, but she's always known she's my second love. As a straight male, this pretty much defines the gender I would assign to the planet. Plus, there's the cultural aspects--even in science we discuss the Gaia and Media Hypotheses, not the Herculies hypothesis.

My cult would be the same as all others reflected outwardly as loving an caring and happy to be devout to our god,but in reality id be that god and all members would love and praise only me :D:D:D:D
