Man I am pissed

I belong to a TG facebook group. I run some contests from time to time. I still have a ton of TG stuff around.

Ina ll the contest I have done, I used a random number generator to pick a winner. I would then post the winners name/ Never an issue. Last week gave out some of the phantom pens I had made for terry. Only a few left. No issues.

This week I ran a major contest for people who posted pictures of their receipts for buying the new book during the first week.

All of a sudden the admin of the FB page is asking me to psot a screen shot of proving who I picked won. Then voided my winner.

Seems people were complaining I did to provide proof for who won and I could have picked a friend.

If I was going to give the shit to a friend, why the hell would I run a contest!

So they're complaining that you didn't prove how you picked the winner?

Firstly, it's your stuff and if I'm understanding you correctly you post the prize to them yourself meaning it costs you money to post it to them.

Secondly, it's your stuff and so you can give it to whoever you want to regardless.

Thirdly, if you provided a screen shot of your random number generator - what the hell is their problem???

that si the problem. I did not provide a screens hot of the random # generator. Never did in any of the other contests other.

Guess I sometimes forget I am not Zedd anymore. These people have no idea who I am. I am used to my word meaning something in the TG universe.

It seems there is an issue with my contest. I did not post a screen shot of the random number generator to prove who won. Seems the admins here got some pms asking for the proof.

I would like to first tell people to stop contacting the admins. They had nothing to do with the contest or how I picked the winner.

I have run a number of contests here and was never asked to prove who I picked. I always assumed my word was enough. I gave away three rare pens last week and no one asked for proof.

I guess since this is a big prize people are less trusting. Think since I did not prove who the winner was, that I would just pick a friend.

If I wanted to pick a friend, I would have just given them the items without running a contest.

Out of respect for Terry and Rob, I do not bring this up a lot, bit I used to go by the name Zedd. I ran Terry Goodkind's official website from about 1997 to the time Rob Anderson took over right before LON. In that time I was Terry's friend and I always had his trust.

I do not blame the FF admins. I wouldn't want to catch crap over something out of my control.

So now I am faced with three choices.
1) say screw it and give the prize to the person I announced.
2) pick a new winner and provide the requested screen shot from the random number generator.
3) Say screw it and delete the contest all together. (Sure no one saw choice 3 coming, but I do not like people questioning my integrity)

I am kinda pissed at the moment, so I am going to sleep on it announce my decision in the morning.

Again, This is not the admins fault. Do not contact them and complain.

I'd be pissed too. Either way you'll always be Zedd to us. Hell if you want to do a contest here go for it. If someone came to me with crap like that I'd tern their avatar upside down for a week.

Wow. That's simply absurd! Such arbitrary action is completely irrational.

Is First File an official TG group? If so, not knowing who you are is also, in my opinion, unacceptable. You ran the official site for ages; at minimum, the official people should show you the respect of knowing your freaking name!

I agree that is the way to go. People seem to think they are so entitled sometimes its pathetic. They can't even accept that someone else won a prize and they didn't.

Still, some people in this community have earned the respect of the community. Yes, it's about Mr. Goodkind; however, you're a big part of why the community is what it is today, and that deserves to be acknowledged. They're building on what you've done, at least to some extent. Even if they don't want to make a big deal about your relationship with Mr. Goodkind you've earned a level of trust far above "random Internet Mook #576".

I'm not sure why they would need to make a big deal about keeping your relationship with Terry under wraps. Sounds like its something taken way too seriously.

It was the new strategy put in place by the new team. It is all supposed to be about Terry, not the people who run the sites. That si why the mods and admins had mod1, mod 2 ect instead of names.

Seems unfair to take away a mod's identity, the ones who actually help keep the site running, for such a reason. Silly indeed.

I can see why Terry wanted it that way. For those of us who weren't exactly in the loop, there's really not much we can say because we don't know much at all about what was going on behind the scenes. Only a few really do.

It's done and in the past. I see no reason to linger on it any more.

Though, Frankly, if it were me, I would have left the Terry Goodkind aspect out of a rejuvenated PI. For me, it's about the community, and the friendships I've made over the years.

It is mostly about that for me, as well, rainshadow. I agree.
