I actually took the big paid for test about 7-8 years ago. I've done a few of the ones around the web since then and nothing seems to have changed.Gregoriouse The Great wrote:Did you start on this site or were you introduced to MBTI elsewhere?

I did the formal version as well. My school picked up the tab. I've studied it a lot off and on ever since.Musikaman wrote:I actually took the big paid for test about 7-8 years ago. Yeah, there's a fair amount of bunk to the MBTI, but I still find it useful as an overall guide to different people.Gregoriouse The Great wrote:I did the formal version as well. Re: MBTI personality type
I've seen some results on some of the online exams that are a bit closer to forer effect (horoscope etc). However, MBTI actually has a lot of research to it. I personally have a large stack of research journals. It also has been around for quite a while now. On top of that MBTI isn't the only group that researches it, David Kiersy has a been researching it for decades now as well as several other various research teams. What I think of it personally is, while its definitely a big, prominent part of personality, its is still nonetheless just part of the picture. The reality is, we don't know if we will ever be able to know all the dimensions of personality. This as well as other personality measurements, like the big 5 aren't a bad take on it though.Seraph wrote:MBTI typing is today's hipster horoscope.

On that note, intuitive and introverts tend to read more in general. Likewise IN usually results in a though reader, however on their own they both correlate with a higher frequency in readers. I have research on that in my journals... as a matter of fact lolMusikaman wrote:Yeah, I knew that one. I think in the right settings I tend toward more ENFJ and INFJ but I would agree with the INTJ assessment.

Re: MBTI personality type
Yeah, I've actually read a lot of this and watched many videos already. I only have one gripe with them at all, and that's that stereotypes do work. They're a shortcut, surely, but not entirely worthless, and it's nice to be able to quantify some of the things I see in people against a structured system, if only for quick reference.Seraph wrote:http://www.reddit.com/r/intj/comments/18e85z/new_subscribers_to_this_sub_please_learn_the/
This was my favorite video from that link... does my bouncing annoy you, Seraph?

Re: MBTI personality type
The one part that I actually do have a bit of objection too is actually the functions part. A lot of it doesn't add up, at least not in contrast to the initial letters. I make a point to note though, the functions are an idea about an idea. Because one part doesn't add up doesn't make it all or nothing. I think functions could be onto something but the biggest issue is it lacks research (though there is research done about functions that assumes that it is accurate). I think it really just needs to be, frankly researched and written. For example Ti is "dominant" for INTP and ISTP. It does make sense with INTP but tagging it onto an ISTP it looks a lot more horoscope-like. Some of it adds up but its not the whole picture. Yet, it does seem to fit a lot better with INTJ as a "dominant" function. Though, being an INTP, I suppose I could very well be wrong. Likewise, research could shed light on the topic.

Re: MBTI personality type
I took this test and I got the same result as I usually get on these test.
ENJT
My percentages were:
Extraverted 95%
Intuition 79%
Thinking 63%
Judging 53%
I had to take multiple personality and temperament as well as a battery of psychological test prior to entering the (as Musikaman calls it) "the snake oil sales business" (ministry) and continue to take them every 3 years. I still find it interesting to learn about how my personality works.

Seems like a lot of INXJs come around here. No wonder the debates got so wild back in the day! lol
